Ground conditions matter more for a concrete base than almost anything else, and Corby’s ground is unusually varied. Parts of the town were built on land once quarried for ironstone, so one garden can be solid and the next full of loose fill.
That’s why every Corby base we build starts with digging to firm ground. Where the ground is uncertain, we recommend steel mesh reinforcement, even for a shed base. We’re about half an hour away in Higham Ferrers.
Areas we cover: Corby, Weldon, Oakley Vale, Great Oakley, Stanion, Gretton, Cottingham and Priors Hall Park
Large areas around Corby were quarried for ironstone and later restored. Made-up ground can hide rubble or soft spots, so we dig until we reach firm ground and reinforce the slab where it’s needed.
Priors Hall Park is one of the county’s largest new communities, with thousands of homes planned. Gardens are newer and often tight for access, and some deeds restrict outbuildings, so check before ordering.
For garden rooms, hot tubs and garages we always use 200mm reinforced concrete. On uncertain Corby ground we may recommend mesh for smaller bases too, and explain why on your quote.
Corby is covered by North Northamptonshire Council. Most garden buildings are permitted development, but listed buildings and older village centres have extra rules.

Planned around your ground, here’s how a Corby base gets built.
On the visit we look for signs of made-up ground and decide how deep we need to dig.
Within 48 hours, explaining any reinforcement we recommend and why.
We dig until we hit firm ground, compact the sub-base, lay the membrane and pour.
About a week later your building can go on, and we can assemble it.
